With black-sand beaches, lagoons, waterfalls and 2 extinct volcanoes, it's a popular vacation destination. Explored by Captain James Cook in the 18th century, it was also often painted by French artist Paul Gauguin. Tahiti is the economic, cultural, and political center of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity and an overseas country of the French Republic. The capital of French Polynesia, Papeete, is located on the northwest coast of Tahiti. The only international airport in the region, Faa’a International Airport, is on Tahiti near Papeete. Tahiti was originally settled by Polynesians between 300 and 800 CE. They represent about 70% of the island's population, with the rest made up of Europeans, Chinese and those of mixed heritage. November to April is the wet season, the wettest month of which is January with 13 in of rain in Papeete. August is the driest with 1.9 in. The average temperature ranges between 70 and 88 °F, with little seasonal variation. The lowest and highest temperatures recorded in Papeete are 61 and 93 °F, respectively. French Polynesia is a semi-autonomous territory of France with its own assembly, president, budget and laws. France's influence is limited to subsidies, education, and security. All-inclusive resorts are properties in vacation destinations where most of the main elements of the trip are pre-paid: accommodations, unlimited food and drinks, and some activities and entertainment are included in the price. Club Med, the world's first all-inclusive, was born in 1950 in a tiny fishing village off the Spanish coast. Many destinations claim to be the home of the first all-inclusive resorts but most of those didn’t come to light until the mid-1970’s. The All-Inclusive resorts have become very popular among vacation destinations and cruises. While many people choose to book an all-inclusive vacation long in advance, you can at times save money when you go for a last-minute booking. Now, this may not always be the case, but it does leave a traveler open to last minute decisions for a quick getaway or finding out some friends are going on an All-Inclusive trip, and you want to go along. Many US travelers notice no or very few all-inclusive resorts in the United States. Believe it or not, from the Florida Keys all the way to the California coast, there are incredible all-inclusive resorts and hotels where all (or most) of your food, drinks and activities are included in the price. These few resorts tend to be very pricey while to resorts in the Bahamas, Mexico, and Jamaica tend to be reasonable. Considering the price of international air travel, the price may not be too far off. So, what tends to not be included? Spa Treatments are typically not included in an all-inclusive package. Some all-inclusive resorts may offer included access to spa facilities like saunas, steam rooms, and hydrotherapy pools. Tipping often tends to be a controversy when it comes to all-inclusive. Some packages offered on the market will say tips are included, however, I find that the extra tip goes a long way with those servers, housekeeping staff, and bar tenders. The extra tips tend to influence extra care and treatment at most Caribbean locations, and cruises.
